Touring Ideas
Don’t fall into the one fundamental mistake that many visitors make and underestimate Tasmania. It may be only 2 hours drive from Launceston to Hobart but don’t think that you can tour Tassie in 2 days. It will take years to see all the great things on offer. Make a sensible compromise for time or maybe come back again?
It is important to remember is that travel times are much longer than you expect. There are two reasons. The first is there is often a lot of things to do and see in a short distance. And the other reason is the curvaceous nature of much of Tasmania’s topography; particularly the West Coast and the North-East and some parts of the East Coast and of course south from Hobart: let’s face it, most of Tasmania. But that does make it ideal for a CX, SM or Activa! Many Tasmanian roads, highways or not, have few overtaking lanes and limited chances of overtaking. Take care, especially in the smaller-engined cars!
There are lots good websites for Tasmania touring to get you thinking to suit your idea of an ideal holiday. Probably the best is the Discover Tasmania site. There are some regional sites as well.
But to whet your appetite here are a few suggestions from members of the CCCT, maybe a few secret favourite places made it onto this list!
